Songs of the Year
Songs of the Year: 1974
Who’s ready for the battle of the deep cuts?
Glam slam thank you ma’am! The year is 1974 and we’re picking our favorite songs of the year.
It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.
We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.
1974 brought smooth jazz (Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell) and the histrionics of Queen (Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack) as well as the rich California sound (Jackson Browne, Eagles) to the forefront. Big releases from Genesis, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mott the Hoople, Aeromsith, King Crimson, John Lennon, Deep Purple Mark III, Neil Young, ELO, Traffic, Yes, ABBA, Randy Newman, Rufus, Supertramp and many more.
In 1974 the three Listographers are bringing deep cuts to the table. The deepest we’ve seen so far. You might not even have heard them before. So the vote could really go any way. Make sure you LISTEN to the songs first before voting or you’ll miss out!
Standings So Far
In a rather stunning turn of events, Joe and Kramzer teamed up with Elton John’s Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding to take down the seemingly unstoppable Paul McCartney and Band on the Run as chosen by Jason. This gives Kramzer his first win since God Only Knows and pulls Joe within a point and a half of Jason.
Jason: 8.5
Joe: 7
Kramzer: 4.5
