Songs of the Year
Songs of the Year: 2015
Trap reigns.
Don’t worry friends, it’s almost over.
I know we’re all looking forward to a new Friday show, one with less of an emphasis on listening to music from the 2010s.
But we gotta finish it out and there are worse years than 2015.
Not many. But they do exist.
On the Billboards, we’ve reached the point where there’s at most 10 good songs in an entire year. And that’s if you like country. If not, you’re probably closer to five unless you’re a big time trap music enthusiast.
In 2015, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk was the big winner, Ed Sheeran was number two (appropriate) and Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa were number three. Taylor Swift’s songs from 2014 were still dominating the charts. The only rock you can find would be Fall Out Boy (who barely qualify at this point) and X Ambassadors.
God help us all.
THE RULES: It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.
We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.
Standings So Far …
Better Red (eyes) than dead. Joe holds off Jason and Kramer in one of the tightest races of the millenium. He’s now 1.5 points up with a critical vote here in 2015. Will the voters reward him for his passion, or will they turn on his pop pic?
Joe: 24
Jason: 22.5
Kramzer: 17.5
