Songs of the Year
Songs of the Year: 2021
Welcome to the twisted future of the Billboard Top 100! It’s a wasteland!
You know the movie the Time Machine where the protagonist goes into the future and discovers a twisted world overrun by morlocks? That’s kind of how we feel about the Billboard charts jumping from 1984 to 2021.
Pickings were slim, but we had to follow the format, dammit. That’s our job. Fortunately there were a few artists that made it, at least somewhat, palatable.
For our wild cards, there are so many to choose from, it’s going to be tough to find tracks that resonate with a lot of people. The canon of great tracks simply hasn’t been established. So we took some shots in the dark and are relying on you, dear viewer, to pick the winner.
It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.
We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.
Standings So Far …
It’s the fuuuuture now, so we won’t include 1984 yet, but so far:
Joe: 13
Jason: 11.5
Kramzer: 7.5
