Songs of the Year
Songs of the Year: 1965
It’s possible the greatest year in song history. There’s too many great ones to even count. Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, Supremes, Smokey, The Who, The Kinks. This year had it all!
There have been books written about 1965. Books about how many good songs there were and how incredible the popular music scene had become
They might have undersold it.
The year is 1965 and we’re picking our favorite songs of the year.
It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.
We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.
There’s a wealth of riches to choose from, like Bob Dylan? Dig Like a Rolling Stone. Like the Beach Boys? They put out three albums. How about the Beatles? Just Rubber Soul and Help! this year. That’s all. Smokey Robinson was putting out a new hit every week. The Supremes were the supreme chart-toppers of the day and we didn’t even mention the Who, Rolling Stones, Zombies and a slew of others from the British invasion.
Which song will reign supreme? Vote for which of us (Kramzer, Joe, Jason) had the best song of the year. You can find them down below in Spotify or YouTube form.
Check back every week for a NEW episode and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel and share this post or this video on all your favorite social networks because lord knows we’ve earned it.
You can also check out our previous series, ALBUM of the YEAR, which we started in 1965.
Standings So Far
Jason snuck out a victory with Bob Dylan’s Times They Are A-Changing, which inexplicably beat out the Beach Boys’ Don’t Worry Baby–both Joe and Kramzer’s pick.
Will Jason go back to the Bob well? Will Kramzer? Will Joe?
Jason: 3.5
Kramzer: 2.5
Joe: 2
