Songs of the Year: 2004

Got 99 problems but choosing a song of the year ain’t one.

Welcome to 2004 and people just want to dance … to indie rock?

The Killers and Franz Ferdinand kicked off a brand new era of indie rock by adding a dance beat to the proceedings.

They were rewarded with Billboard chart success and The Killers especially became radio darlings … but they would reach their highest point in 2005.

THE RULES: It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.

We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.

Standings So Far …

Jason has been unstoppable in the 2000’s, picking up a win with Golden, one of two songs chosen from My Morning Jacket’s It Still Moves. Kramzer, got the short end of the stick with his MMJ pick. Joe was hoping that would open things up for a win for Kanye West’s Through The Wire. But he was woefully mistaken.

This year we have an even rarer double going up against a popular breakout hit from a hot new band.

Joe: 20
Jason: 18.5
Kramzer: 13.5
