Songs of the Year: 2010

The year Glee took over.

on

Contractually we have to see this series through to the finale. But damn, if things aren’t bleak right now.

Unless you love Glee.

If you love Glee then you’re like a pig in shit this year. Glee charted so many songs in 2010 that they broke the Beatles’ record for most Hot 100 charting songs by a non-single artist.

That’s sick.

2010 also had Hey, Soul Sister reach its peak (or is it nadir). We’ve talked about that song enough though.

It was, in Billboard’s estimation, the year that music went pop.

Whatever. Only 12 more years until SOTY is over. We can do it.

THE RULES: It’s a simple concept. We pick five of our favorite songs that made the Billboard Top 100 (established in 1958) during any time that year. We also select five “wildcards” that can be any songs released as a single or on an album or EP that year. Finally, we also pick our “worst” song of the year, just for fun.

We started in 1958 and we’re going until we run out of years.

Standings So Far …

Kramzer’s Animal Collective somehow beat out Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Joe thinks there was some kind of Nixon-JFK vote rigging going on. This year it’s Kramzer’s indie darlings vs. Jason’s Indie darlings with Joe not even a consideration if past is prologue.

Don’t call it a comeback? Can Kramzer pull off the impossible and catch Joe and Jason?

Joe: 22
Jason: 19.5
Kramzer: 16.5
